Gynecomastia is an abnormal enlargement of the male breast, which may inconvenience many men and that is easily solved with current surgical techniques.

The cause of this problem is usually the accumulation of fat or abnormal development of the mammary gland. Currently it is estimated that gynecomastia affects more than one third of men and can affect one breast or both.

In the first consultation, Dr. Martínez Gutiérrez will evaluate your medical history in order to detect liver problems, steroids, or medications that contain estrogen, since it is possible that eliminating medication containing female hormones or treating the cause of gynecomastia, it can improve the appearance of breasts without surgery. Although in most cases there are no known causes that justify the enlargement of breasts in men, and surgery is the only solution to the problem.

What is the procedure?

The surgery to reduce male breast is performed in an operating room, either in a clinic or hospital. May require hospitalization, and is often given a medical discharge after a few hours or the next day. This intervention for breast reduction is usually performed under general anesthesia, so the patient is asleep during the operation.

The incision made in this type of intervention is very small, usually at the edge of the areola in the case that it is necessary to remove glandular tissue, or through small incisions hidden. If only is necessary to remove fat, liposuction is performed using a cannula, which sucks the excess fat in the breast.

After surgery, you will have an vendage 24 hours, which will then be replaced by a tight elastic band to reduce swelling and skin to fit the new contour. This belt must be worn for several weeks to help reduce inflammation.
